A unique raffle is giving Pembina Valley residents a chance to win a stunning, handcrafted playhouse while supporting the transformative work of Adult & Teen Challenge. The Playhouse, built with care and generosity, is showcased at the Super Thrift Store on 324 Cargill Road in Winkler.
A gift of generosity
The Playhouse is a labor of love from an anonymous, retired carpenter with a personal connection to the organization. According to Derek Neufeld, a representative of Adult and Teen Challenge, the craftsman donated the Playhouse to support their programs after seeing a family member benefit from their services.
“This was just one of those sincere gifts,” Derek shared. “He built this with brand-new materials, and it’s not just a Playhouse—it could even serve as an elaborate garden shed for someone. Instead of selling it, he decided to give it to us so we could raise money for the organization.”
Supporting life-changing programs
Funds raised from the Playhouse raffle will directly support the ministry’s efforts, which include community programs and outpatient services.
“We help people. Simple as that,” Derek said. “We meet them at their lowest—right where they are—and help bring them back up. Seeing that life transformation never gets old.”
Derek emphasized that the money raised stays local, supporting Adult & Teen Challenge’s Community Office in Winkler. This office provides resources for individuals and families through support groups and recovery programs.
“We’ve been running a men’s support group weekly for almost six years, which is incredible,” Derek explained. “We also launched an outpatient program this year called ‘Concerned Persons’ to help families set healthy boundaries and support loved ones in recovery.”
How to enter the raffle
Tickets for the Playhouse raffle are $20 each, and only 200 tickets are available, increasing the odds of winning. The draw will take place on December 1st.
To purchase tickets, visit the Super Thrift Store at 324 Cargill Road in Winkler. Every dollar raised goes directly to Adult & Teen Challenge to fund their impactful work in the community.
While visiting the Super Thrift Store, Derek encourages community members to consider donating gently used items—particularly men’s clothing and footwear, which are in high demand.
“With winter coming, items like work boots, snow boots, and jackets can make a big difference for families in need,” Derek said.
Transforming lives together
Derek reflected on the growth of Adult & Teen Challenge in the Pembina Valley and the increasing openness surrounding addiction and recovery.
“People are learning that they don’t have to come all neat and tidy,” he said. “We want to hear their story and show them there’s another side to it.”
