After starting their baseball careers in Portage la Prairie, twins Matt and Lindsey Dahl have been announced as inductees into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.
Matt says that the honour was quite unexpected.
"It was a surprise to me actually, but it was an honour to be considered for that. It's a game I love to play and I still love being around the game. To be recognized for the time I put in at the diamond is a great honour."
The brothers spent a lot of years on the baseball diamond, including growing up in Portage, and Matt states, without his brother, he isn't sure they'd have reached this accomplishment.
"I don't think either of us would've been as successful as we were on the diamond if we didn't play together. We played almost all of our season on the same team, outside of a handful of years. It's great to go into the hall of fame with my brother, and we're pretty excited about it."
The brothers took part in three Western Canadian Championships, winning twice, along with each winning an MVP award in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League between 1997 and 1999. The brothers also both got a chance in their careers to play for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Matt emphasizes to those with aspirations in sports or other aspects of life to keep chasing their dreams.
"If you find something you enjoy and are passionate about doing, put your effort in, put the hard work in, and potentially, there's an accomplishment that you'll get recognized for."
