The Humboldt Broncos managed a split during their Family Weekend picking up a 3-1 win against the Melville Millionaires but were shutout by the Nipawin Hawks the next night 1-0.

Edouard Gauthier made his return to the Broncos crease on Friday night after being sidelined for nearly a month with an injury. He made 37 saves against the Millionaires as the Broncos picked up their third straight win against Melville over a two-week span.

Tre Fouquette opened the scoring for Humboldt. Conner Miller scored the game-winning-goal on the power play with Marik Mamic providing the insurance marker.

The Broncos had the edge on special teams going 2/7 on the power play and successfully killing off all five Millionaires power plays.

Also, during Friday’s game, the Broncos honoured the parents and billets of the team with an introduction before the game.

Any momentum that Humboldt built up on Friday came to a screeching halt with a 1-0 shutout loss to the Nipawin Hawks.

Carter Anderson scored the lone marker of the game with a breakaway goal in the beginning of the second period.

Gauthier made his second straight start of the weekend, making 36 saves in the loss.

Rookie Hawks netminder Gage Roberts earned the shutout stopping 36 shots.

Both teams were 0/6 on the power play.

Following the game on Saturday, the Broncos held their annual skills competition along with the shootout.

Finishing the top three spots in the shootout were:

  1. Jeter Korte

  1. Rylan Hue

  1. Ryder Knutson

Fastest Skater- Gabriel Filion
Accuracy- Maddox Amaral
Hardest Shot- Connor Miller

The Broncos will now begin a stretch of four straight road games, as this weekend they will head north for a pair of games in La Ronge against the Ice Wolves.

Next week, the Broncos venture south as they meet the Norte Dame Hounds in Wilcox on Wednesday, November 27 and then travel to Weyburn to square off with the Red Wings.

The next home game for the Broncos is Saturday, November 30 with another matchup against Nipawin.
