The Big Six Hockey League was heating up what was a cold southeast region with four games on the schedule, two of which needed extra time to find a winner.

Let's go back to Friday night when all teams left it all on the line. It was a low-scoring affair between the Oxbow Huskies and the KW Oil Kings in Kipling. After the Oil Kings' Lane Roth was called for hooking, Huskies' Cody Davis took advantage and ripped on past Zachary Barath for a powerplay goal. It took most of the second period for Carson Harcourt to respond for the KW Oil Kings, finding a way to get the puck behind Zack Miller. The third period saw no goal posted, but a lot of penalty minutes were being drawn by Oxbow. It was near the middle of the period that saw a back-and-forth between the two teams, trading blows with roughing and tripping calls. None of that would matter in the end, as Alex Von Sprecken was able to get through the Oil Kings, confirming the win just 1:01 into the overtime period. 2-1 was the final at the Kipling Arena

Back-and-forth was the best way to describe the matchup between the Carlyle Cougars and the Redvers Rockets on Friday night. Presten Kopeck opened the scoring in the first for Redvers, but the Cougars would respond shortly after with an unassisted goal from Ben Johnstone. Kopeck was able to take advantage of a high-sticking major penalty handed to Carlyle's Cade Bendtsen, scoring late in the first period. Jordon Miller made it 3-1 for the Rockets early in the second, but the Cougars countered with two goals near the middle of the period. Presten Kopeck broke the tie early in the third after taking advantage of another Cougars penalty just 30 seconds in. As the period wore on, the teams traded scoring opportunities until Jon Gaudet of the Cougars tied the game with 10 minutes left in the period. After surviving a shootout, he would bring about the end of the game in a shootout and earning Carlyle the 6-5 win.

The Wawota Flyers welcomed the Midale Mustangs for their first game of the season on Saturday night. However, Midale took control of the contest fast, posting four goals in the first period. Taylor Earnst from the home team earned the lone goal for the period. Wawota found a glimmer of hope in the second, posting two goals in the second. The Mustangs only responded with one past Wawota goalie Brendan Rinn. The tables turned back to Midale's favour, securing the 7-4 win over Wawota after posting two more goals in the third.

Going into their second game of the weekend, the Carlyle Cougars were feeling pretty confident after securing the win against the Redvers Rockets the night before. The team even managed to dominate the Carnduff Red Devils heavy-handedly, getting three goals past Cody Dumaine in the first. However, this would be the last time the visitors would score inside the Carnduff Centennial Arena that night. The home team nabbed a goal at the end of the first. Two more were contributed in the second by Cooper Bowman and Matthew Plews respectively, which tied the game. Brandon Trask would break the tie midway through the third, winning the game for the Carnduff Red Devils with a 4-3 result.
