1 person in hospital, 1 cat injured after fire in St. James

One person is in hospital after a fire tore through a St. James home Monday afternoon.

The blaze broke out in a bungalow in the 300 block of Collegiate Street shortly after noon.

Smoke was pouring out of the house and the fire was well-involved when crews arrived. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire from within the home. 

Everyone was able to evacuate before firefighters arrived at the scene. One person was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Firefighters also located a cat while searching the home. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency responded and provided care for the cat.

The house sustained significant water, fire and smoke damage.  

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
