Gateway Resources Christmas concert: A heartwarming celebration of music and community
The Christmas season has arrived, and Gateway Resources is gearing up for its annual Christmas concert, bringing the community together to celebrate the spirit of the season. The concert, which features performances from the participants of Gateway Resources, will take place on Thursday, November 28th, at 7:00 PM at the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church. Admission is free, and a freewill offering will be collected to support Gateway’s programs.
A special performance by Judy Doerksen
Gateway Resources provides services, programs and employment for individuals with disabilities, helping them develop work and life skills in a variety of settings. Judy Doerksen, one of the performers, shares her excitement about the upcoming concert. “I love singing for the Lord,” she says. “It’s a joy to share music with others, especially at Christmas time.” Judy, who has been singing in the Gateway choir for years, will perform a duet of "The Baby Boy" with fellow choir members Tina Wolfe and John Penner. “I got my love of singing from my parents,” she adds, “and I’m excited to sing this beautiful song with Tina, who plays the guitar.”
“I always enjoy singing solos at the concert,” Judy says with a smile. “The harmonies and the joy of the season make it such a special experience.” Judy’s passion for singing shines through, and it’s clear that her love for music is contagious.
What to expect at the concert
The Gateway Christmas concert is a heartwarming event filled with beautiful music. From classic carols to beloved hymns, the concert will showcase a wide variety of holiday tunes, performed by Gateway participants. “We’ll have everything from Christmas carols to more musical numbers,” Tim explains. “It’s a great way to kick off the Christmas season.”

Supporting Gateway Resources
While the concert is a highlight of the season, it also serves a greater purpose. All proceeds from the freewill offering go directly to supporting the services that Gateway Resources provides to its participants. “The money raised helps us continue our work, supporting people in our daily programs,” Tim explains.
At Gateway, participants are involved in various programs, including recycling, cleaning, and kitchen work. Judy, who works in the recycling program, adds, “Sometimes it’s tiring, but I still find joy in my work. And a reminder to everyone—please rinse out your milk containers before recycling them!”
