The Cayley Flying Ranch Airport is now taxiing cars instead of planes.
The Mercedes-Benz Downtown Calgary dealership has purchased the Cayley Flying Ranch Airport.
The auto dealership has been using the runway for the past year or so to test out their vehicles and shoot promotional videos.
Mazen Aboulhosn, co-general manager of the dealership says they decided to buy it outright and they're thrilled.
"It's a beautiful facility at the same time too and has a hanger and quite a nice house as well too. We also really love the community and some of the views are just breathtaking and epic with the mountain backdrop as well."
Aboulhosn went further in explaining how rewarding the experience has been over the last year as they've pushed hard with their social media and sharing their videos.
"We have a YouTube channel with over 106,000 subscribers and we've done a lot of reviews there at the runway where we do a lot of comparison tests. We invite other local dealers to bring out their product and then challenge our vehicles. It's worked out to be quite fun and you can actually see a lot of those videos on our YouTube channel."
Aboulhosn says one of the unique things about owning the runway in the Foothills is the location.
"We're at a pretty high altitude. The runway is situated 3400 feet above sea level and that does have an impact on how vehicles perform. Most of the time you see video reviews and it's taking place in sunny California at sea level and cars perform differently there. So, it's a lot more personal perspective for people living in our area for them to see exactly how the vehicles perform at these altitudes."
