Have you ever been starstruck? By definition, it's "an adjective used to describe someone who is fascinated or greatly impressed by famous people, especially those in the entertainment industry".
It happened to me at the Wascana Country Club in Regina back in 2018.
A friend and I were there to watch the LPGA's Canadian Open.
I was walking by the practice green as superstar Lexi Thompson was walking off and towards the 1st tee. She was immaculately dressed in purple and mauve and she smelled like lavender.
I was standing on the path she needed to walk but I just froze. I couldn't move. I was literally starstruck.
The look she gave me as she stepped around me wasn't pleasant.
I felt bad. I was embarrassed.
My friend said, "I think you just creeped her out."
I said, "I know I did."
I'm thinking about that today as the golf world talks about Lexi retiring from full-time play on the LPGA Tour.
She leaves with 11 tour wins and a major championship and, I'm sure, many memories.
I just hope she doesn't remember me.
