The Weyburn Fire Department is making waves this Movember, with $2,280 raised as of the morning of November 20th and no signs of slowing down. According to firefighter Chuck Hignett, the team’s involvement is about more than just the iconic mustaches—it’s about tackling issues like men’s mental health, prostate and testicular cancer, and suicide awareness.
“I just think it’s a critical thing that maybe doesn’t get talked about enough,” said Hignett. Through their participation, the Weyburn Firefighters hope to shine a light on these important topics while encouraging community engagement.
Department members have been spreading the word through their official Movember webpage and personal outreach efforts.
“Our members are out there in the public just talking with people,” Hignett noted. “Some people are really thankful for the conversations as well.”
With just a few weeks left in November, the Weyburn Firefighters are urging the community to get involved.
“They can go on to the Movember webpage and look up the Weyburn Fire Department Mo Bros,” explained Hignett. Donations, engaging in discussions with firefighters, and attending local events are all ways to support the cause.
The team will be visible throughout the month at key events, including the Red Wings game for muscular dystrophy on November 26, the Christmas parade on November 28, and a toy drive on November 30.
For those curious about some friendly competition within the firehouse, Hignett shared that he thinks Rob has the best stache in the house.
