A night of laughs and lip-sync luminaries head up St. Brieux Amateur Dramatics (SAD) Festival of Laughs.
The show goes at St. Brieux Community Hall on Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24. Doors open at 6:00 pm with fun and frivolity kicking off at 7:00 pm.
Trevor Lindenbach is the president of St. Brieux Amateur Dramatics, and he talks a bit about the group.
“It’s probably close to 20 years that the group has been together, and it continues to go strong. We’ve seen a range and change in group members. With life in small towns, you get people moving out and in. We get a blend of new talent almost every year.”
The Festival of Laughs is a series of club scripted shorts or skits harkening to the likes of Saturday Night Live or the infamous Soaps staged at the Broadway in Saskatoon. For the first time, the Festival introduces Brew Crew Productions which adds an element of film to the mayhem. There’s method in the madness in adding film to the mix, says Lindenbach.
“There’s a lot of people who would love to be involved, but the thought of being in front of a crowd scares them to death. But they’d gladly do something on video, so this year we bought an 18-foot screen and projector, so we’re going to turn our hall into a theatre for a couple of shorts that we did.”
It’s a bit of experimental cinema, Lindenbach confesses, but if it catches on, they are hoping it will become a future staple of their comedy shows.
Of course, one of the highlights of the evening will be the lip-sync battle that pits the cast against each other in unlikely musical performances. It’ll be the 10th go round for the always popular feature. Lindenbach is hoping to retain the crown from last year, but he’s thinking his tribute to Adele may need to be replaced to up the entertainment value.
It’s a licensed event with the bar proceeds going to the Kinsmen Club in St. Brieux. A midnight lunch will be provided.
Tickets are available from Trevor or any of the members listed on the poster below.
