The Royal Canadian Legion building in Cochrane is turning 50 this weekend.
And to celebrate, Legion members have planned a party and dance with live music for Saturday night.
Legion volunteer Jane Dupre highlights its community importance and celebrates the half-century milestone.
"If the walls could speak, we're hoping to have the stories from members. We have one lady that walked in the day that they moved and opened that hall up, so she's going to be speaking. And that's kind of what the night is looking like. We're just hoping to have a good fun night and celebrate the Legion and all it does for the community."
A half century is worth celebrating says Dupre.
"When we learned that 50 years ago was when they actually opened the doors and they had a party, we thought, you know what? We've got to have a party. We found an old newspaper ad and it showed how they danced the night away. They had a band and they had a great big supper and everything."

"We wanted to hold it on the right date but it's also Light Up, so we realized we don't want to compete against Light Up, so we're hoping that people are going to come over from Light Up and join us to celebrate the Legion."
Tickets for the celebration are available at the Legion.
The event starts at 7 p.m. and will include speeches from local dignitaries, stories, live music from May Contain Alcohol and a late night lunch.
