Noah Jacobs, an avid skier from Cochrane, has achieved an impressive milestone this week as he hit the slopes for 96 consecutive months of skiing, spanning eight years.
“It’s been nonstop,” Jacobs says, reflecting on his journey, which has included countless slopes in Alberta and beyond.
His streak began as a casual challenge but quickly evolved into a passion project. "Turns All Year is the name of the challenge."
“It’s a silly ski challenge you find on Facebook or Instagram, but it really resonates with people who love skiing year-round.”
The challenge is all about skiing at least once a month, no matter the season or location.
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. During the pandemic, Jacobs faced unique challenges, including lockdowns in Montreal. “One time, I skied on a tiny patch of snow in a Montreal park just to keep the streak alive,” he shared. “Another time, in July 2020, I hiked up and down a 50-foot patch of snow in Vermont to get my 33 turns in. It was ridiculous but worth it.”
Of course, summers present a bigger challenge, with snow harder to find. Jacobs is lucky to travel often for work which has lead him to slopes in South America, Chile and Argentina.
Jacobs now spends his winters in Cochrane, where the proximity to Lake Louise and other world-class skiing destinations makes maintaining his streak easier.
"Lake Louise is my home mountain. They were the first to open in Canada this year, and it’s shaping up to be a great season.”
As for the future, Jacobs has no plans to stop. “I’ll hit 100 months in March, but beyond that, I just keep going,”
“It’s about staying active and enjoying the outdoors. Whether it’s skiing or another passion, just find something you love and stick with it.”
“It’s been an incredible journey and it’s far from over.”
