The new lights installed on 16th Street are up and running and City of Weyburn Director of Engineering, Renee Cugnet, says it will increase the level of service for highway traffic.

“The intersection of 16th Street and 1st Avenue has been upgraded to a traffic signal light now, and the four-way stop signs have been removed, so it is no longer a four-way stop. So be aware, if you're coming through that intersection, to watch for a green or red light.”

“They are on a timing program, but they do have the cross-street detection camera system as well, so that will allow traffic to go straight through on First Ave when there's no cross-street traffic coming up or approaching.”

The reduction in continuous stopping and going will reduce shoving on the new pavement and preserve the integrity of the new infrastructure.

“I just want to acknowledge the province of Saskatchewan for providing the city with funding to install those traffic signal lights at 16th Street and 1st Avenue. We appreciate that we were selected for the funding in order to install these lights to increase our level of service and safety at this intersection.”
