Tonight, start the Christmas season in downtown Swift Current.
Market Square is poised to be packed with people watching as the tree-lighting ceremony takes place at 7 P.M. In and amongst the crowd will be the likes of the Swift Current Broncos, the Ecole Centennial School Choir, City Hall, RCMP and the Fire Department, Hutch Ambulance, and various characters like Princess Elsa, the Grinch, along with Charlie Horse will be there.
Santa Claus himself is supposed to catch a ride to town from the North Pole.
Brad Woods, events and partnerships coordinator for the City of Swift Current, is thrilled to have so much merriment on the schedule.
"We will have the outside firepit there," said Woods. "But people should still dress warm."
Alongside all the fun, there is also something delicious ready to be handed out. The fine folks from Golden West Broadcasting will be hard at work brewing, pouring, and handing out hot chocolate to all the chilly people, helping them heat up their smiles for the evening.
People are also reminded that donations are being accepted by Hutch Ambulance.
"It went so well last year, that we have partnered up with them again," said Woods. "They will have the ambulance there, trying to fill it up."
Parents looking to take their kids for a sleigh ride will have the chance to tour the lights in Memorial Park in a horse-drawn wagon, as there may not be enough snow for traditional sleighs.
This event is 100 per cent free to attend, courtesy of the City of Swift Current and all the partners who have joined in for the tree lighting.
