It’s a common experience in the Pembina Valley and throughout southern Manitoba. You’ve driven through heavy, wet, dirty snow to run some errands, buy groceries or visit friends and family, and buy the time you get home you simply want to go inside as quickly as possible.

Your vehicle, however, can’t dry off as quickly as your boots, and through the night it drips a mixture of snow, sand and salt onto the surface of your garage, damaging the concrete and seeping into the walls.

That is, unless you’ve parked atop a Floor Guard Garage Mat from Winkler Canvas. In that case, as Rick Suderman points out, that harmful grime and moisture will be contained within a 28 oz anti-skid, vinyl-coated nylon mat with a 1” diameter ethafoam barrier.

“Basically, it’s a catchment device for all the stuff that’s going to come off your vehicle in winter,” he says. “It’ll keep all the grime and stuff off your concrete and prevent the salt from eating into it and seeping into your walls.”

Suderman, one of the owners of Winkler Canvas, also explains that a Garage Mat can be especially useful if your garage is a bit older or has improperly-poured cement that doesn’t drain as well as it should. His shop typically stocks six common sizes of mats, although he’s always happy to make a custom-sized product. And not only for vehicles.
