Not long after the abrupt return of winter conditions comes the return of Light Up Okotoks tomorrow (Nov. 22).
While snow and colder temperatures are here to stay, it looks like this will be far from the coldest Light Up Okotokians have seen.
The temperature is expected to hang just below -10° all day and into the evening.
Snowfall is expected on Friday, though it's unclear if it will continue as the event gets going at 5:30 p.m.
"It does look like, at least at this time, that the heaviest snowfall will be more during the day, but I wouldn't count it out continuing into the evening period," says Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Jesse Wagar. "We get into this flow pattern here the winds turn and help keep that snow, even if it's light, around for a little longer than indicated."
If we do see snowfall later in the day, Wagar says it could play into the Light Up aesthetic quite nicely.
"If you're lucky enough and you do get some of that lower cloud hanging around, the lights like to bounce off of those small snow particles in the air. so hopefully it'll be a beautiful sight for you guys."
It's looking like event-goers won't have to worry about grappling with bitter windchill either.
"Thankfully, the wind chill shouldn't be too much of a factor on Friday evening, we are expecting relatively light winds. Temperatures look like they are expected to tank in the latter half of the weekend with significantly more snow to the east of Okotoks."
Wagar does caution anyone heading eastward this weekend to be aware of the heavier snowfall, particularly east of Calgary along the Highway 1 corridor.
