With the ongoing postal strikes, the City of Swift Current is warning residents of billing issues.
As Canada Post workers continue to engage in job action, the City of Swift Current will not be mailing out bills. However, residents are still obligated and required to pay those bills.
Ryan Lochart, manager of revenue and collections for the City of Swift Current, understands that this is an inconvenience, but is offering people alternative methods for people to collect their bills.
"There are two methods that citizens can use in order to acquire their bills," said Lochart. "The first is what we call Swift Connect, which is an online application that allows them to receive bills electronically. If you don't want to do that, then the second way is you can contact us at City Hall."
In order to pay and receive bills digitally, people will need to email swift connect@swiftcurrent.ca in order to receive their account ID and PIN number.
"Once you have these pieces of information, you go to swiftconnect.live," said Lochart. "Follow the step-by-step instructions to get it set up."
Alternatively, people can acquire their bills by going to Swift Current City Hall. People can either go in person, email customer services or call 778-2701.
If the strikes continue, the City may consider finding an alternative method of mailing out bills. For now, though, there are no plans for alternative mailing.
There are penalties for failing to pay the bills even during the strike. Ratepayers who fall behind can expect a one per cent interest charge per month until the bill is paid.
People who go to pay in person can pay by cash, card, or cheque. Lochart recommends that people consider setting up automatic payments through their financial institution of choice.
