Sun Country Hearing celebrated its grand opening this morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor Jeff Richards and Councillor Todd Bedore represented the City of Weyburn. The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce was represented by President Chad Bailey and Executive Director Monica Osborn alongside Ashton Lorieau representing Weyburn Tourism.

Melanie Tribiger, owner of Sun Country Hearing, offers a variety of free services to celebrate their opening.

“Today we're offering free hearing screenings, free hearing aid cleanings, and we're also offering the chance to peek into your own ears using our video otoscope."

While they have been open since August of last year, they are taking an opportunity now to celebrate joining the Weyburn community.

“I purchased Sun Country Hearing two years ago, and that was one of the things that I really wanted to do once I purchased the clinic, was to open a location in Weyburn. I really believe in bringing services to the people of these smaller centres, rather than forcing communities to drive to a larger centre.”

She explains having the clinic in the community makes hearing healthcare more accessible, especially as hearing loss tends to get worse with age.

“Anytime we can make accessing hearing health care easier for our seniors, I'm happy to do that. It's not always easy to coordinate a trip to Regina, you know, sometimes you have to have someone drive you, or some people are just more comfortable dealing in a smaller centre.”

“Having this facility accessible means that people will take their hearing health into consideration a little more. My hope is that it encourages people to follow up with annual hearing testing, so that we can make sure that everyone's hearing the best they can.”

She expresses her thanks to the community for their support and acceptance over the past year.

“It's just fantastic to be a part of the community, everyone's been very welcoming.”
