Some downtown businesses have not had sidewalks before, and they now have to be cleared of snow by tenants
Categories

Following the first winter storm of the year, after a wonderful lengthy warmer-than-usual fall, snow clearing as has been the priority for city workers in Portage la Prairie.

Mayor Sharilyn Knox says they beefed up the plan before last winter, noting last winter was somewhat mild.

"So, the plan was used but not as much. So, we're really looking at the completion of Saskatchewan Ave. to see. how that has helped," says Knox. "We have some new equipment like Lucy Loader that has contributed to that, but we also just want to remind you, especially on Saskatchewan Ave., some of the businesses at the West End have never had sidewalks in front."

Knox explains this has led owners of buildings to issue notices with their tenants that it's their responsibility to get those sidewalks cleared in front of their businesses. The time for clearing has a deadline of 10:00 a.m.
