The Winnipeg Police Service has been unable to find any evidence that a dangerous person was on campus at the University of Manitoba earlier this week.
On Tuesday, Winnipeg police flooded the U of M's Fort Garry campus after receiving reports of a man allegedly armed with a large kitchen knife near the Allen building.
The Winnipeg Police Service used social media and the province's Alert Ready Emergency Alert System to get the word out and to ask people to avoid the area.
Investigators explored multiple sources of evidence; however, they have not been able to substantiate the information that has come forward.
"Understandably, the incident elevated concerns from both general and university communities," said the Winnipeg Police Service in a press release. "We believe the service’s course of action was timely, appropriate, and carefully considered based on the initial reporting and details provided."
Anyone with information regarding the incident, including video surveillance, is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
