The bylaw requires snow and ice to be cleared from sidewalks in front and alongside properties within 24 hours after snowfall ends. To minimize hazards, keep cleared snow on your property and away from streets and public areas.

For those using snow blowers, be mindful of noise restrictions: from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and until 9 a.m. on Sundays and Statutory Holidays.

If Municipal Enforcement receives a complaint about uncleared sidewalks, an officer will investigate and give homeowners a 24-hour window to address the problem. If the snow remains, the city will hire a contractor to clear it, with the cost charged to the property owner.

In addition to residents' responsibilities, the City operates 24/7 to manage snow on more than 542 km of roadways. Crews begin plowing when snow reaches five centimetres, prioritizing intersections, hills, and other high-traffic areas. Roads are cleared using a structured priority system:

  • Priority 1: Main arterial roads like Main Street and school zones on school days.
  • Priority 2: Key residential feeder roads such as Meadowbrook Drive.
  • Priority 3: Rural routes like Township Road 264.
  • Priority 4: City-owned facilities, including parking lots and fire halls.
  • Priority 5: Residential streets are addressed when roads become impassable.

Residents are encouraged to park off-street, clear sidewalks within 24 hours and avoid piling snow onto public roads. Shovelling snow to the right of your driveway can help reduce the amount deposited by plows.

A snowfall warning ended for Airdrie and the surrounding areas on Saturday evening.
