A man is dead and an officer injured after a serious incident in the Unicity parking lot Sunday evening.
Several police cars filled the parking lot of the Winnipeg Smart Centre shoping mall in Unicity at around 5:09 p.m.
At one point, there were upwards of a dozen police cruisers on scene.
Yellow tape can now be seen surrounding a bus shack, some clothing and a portion of a nearby parking lot.
In a press conference, Winnipeg police said that an officer was stabbed in the throat by a man with an edged weapon.
Officers attending the scene attempted to disarm the man but he disobeyed commands at which point he was shot.
Officers provided medical care until paramedics arrived.
The suspect was pronounced dead. The police officer is recovering.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the investigation.
