This December, Southeast Saskatchewan won’t need to travel far to experience the excitement of the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). The Estevan Exhibition Association is hosting Where Vegas Meets Country, a three-day extravaganza inspired by the iconic Las Vegas event. Kicking off on December 5, the celebration offers something for everyone.
“We thought, hey, why not bring Vegas to town?” says Dallas Spencer, Vice President of the Estevan Exhibition Association. “Lots of people take off this time of year to Vegas to watch the National Finals Rodeo down there, so we come up with this event and we’re calling it Where Vegas Meets Country.”
December 5: The Kickoff Party
The festivities begin on Thursday, December 5, to coincide with the first night of the NFR. Spencer describes it as “a big party, [with] drink specials, good food by EB’s, and some good games.” Guests can enjoy Vegas-style table games, family-friendly fun, and even “Christmas presents” — mystery boxes filled with surprise prizes.
With Canadian rodeo athletes competing at the NFR, this event serves as a local celebration of their efforts. “You’re not just watching TV,” says Spencer. “We’re gonna do some bunch of different little things to keep the crowd active and entertained.”
December 13: Social Hangout Night
The festivities continue on Friday, December 13, with a relaxed social evening. “There’ll be some table games [and] mystery prizes available,” Spencer said. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow rodeo fans and enjoy more Vegas-inspired fun.
December 14: The Gala Evening
The event culminates on Saturday, December 14, with a Western-themed gala evening. Spencer encourages attendees to “find your finest Western wear and come on out.” Featuring exquisite catering by Eddie Webster’s and a host of exciting games, the gala promises a memorable night for all.
One highlight of the evening will be big-ticket raffle items, including a horse-drawn wagon ride through the Festival of Lights at Woodlawn. “It’s well worth it,” says Spencer. “There’s nothing like it.”
Supporting a Community Legacy
Beyond the festivities, Where Vegas Meets Country is also a fundraiser to support upgrades at the Estevan Exhibition Hall, a cornerstone of the local community. “The chairs are getting a little outdated,” Spencer notes. Proceeds from the event will go toward improving the venue and possibly new grandstands for the arena.
For Spencer, the event is an invitation for everyone to join, whether they’re rodeo fans or simply looking for holiday cheer. “Even if you’re not a rodeo fan, come check it out,” he says.
Tickets for the kickoff and social nights will be available at the door, while gala tickets are only available online. Visit the Estevan Exhibition Association’s Facebook page or website at estevanex.com for more information.
As Spencer puts it, “It’s gonna be a great time.”
