After avoiding their third straight loss on Saturday in La Ronge, the Humboldt Broncos will try and return to their winning ways tonight.
They will be in Wilcox to meet the Notre Dame Hounds in the first of a two-game southern road trip.
This season the Broncos haven't lost three games in a row.
Assistant Coach Carter Hansen said following Saturday’s game that it's important for the team to avoid a prolonged slump.
“Got to be able to bounce back, especially when you get into playoff time, you don’t have time to worry about what just happened last night or the night before, maybe you just lost the first two, you got to bounce back for that game three, so I think it’s good mentality that we’ve had.”
A key component to the Broncos win on Saturday in La Ronge was the return of forward Marik Mamic from suspension.
The Quesnel, BC product was issued a two-game suspension following the Broncos win against Melville on November 15 for a hit that was determined to be a Major-Head Contact and Game Misconduct.
Mamic returned to the lineup on Saturday and scored a pair of goals in the Broncos win against La Ronge.
Due to a pair of injuries and suspensions, Mamic has played in only 13 games this year and has produced 12 points (7G-5A).
Hansen says Mamic is the heartbeat of the team when he’s in the lineup especially after last year when was a presence on the team’s penalty kill.
“He (Mamic) hasn’t really changed his game, he’s just added a little bit more offence to it, he’s finding the back of the net almost every game he seems to be in, and hopefully he can get into a more consistent playing basis.”
Tonight’s matchup will be the first time the Broncos will face the Hounds since the opening weekend home-and-home set back in September. Humboldt swept the series to begin the regular season.
Coverage for tonight’s game on Bolt FM begins at 7:15 with the opening faceoff at 7:30.
The Broncos will continue their southern trek on Friday in Weyburn against the Red Wings.
Next home game will be on Saturday, with the Broncos hosting the Nipawin Hawks.
