Last week, a Grade eight student from Didsbury's Westglen School had an incredible time at Universal Studios in California.

Jade Davies had the trip of her life after Kerrie Howery a Family School Wellness Worker at Westglen School nominated her for the trip with the Dreams Take Flight organization in Calgary.

The organization allows kids, who might not normally be able to, to take trips to select locations they will remember forever.

“Nominating Jade was a very easy decision,” says Howery. “Jade is an incredible human being. She radiates joy and lights up every single room she is in. She is loved by the staff and students at this school, and she never lets her disability stop her from doing what she wants to do. She is a child who appreciates absolutely everything.”

According to Howery, she learned about the organization from her husband as he thought she might be able to nominate somebody.

Before she left on the trip, Davies explained that she was so excited to go and that it was her first time on a plane. When she got back, she had all kinds of stories to share.

"I really loved it. I was happy all day and always had a huge smile. It was the best day ever and I'll always remember it. I loved the airplane and that I got to sit in first class.”

The Mario Kart ride, the Studio Tour, and getting to meet Optimus Prime were the highlights of the vacation. Davies also enjoyed making new friends.

The principal of Westglen School, Carolyn Massel, expressed gratitude for Howery's nomination.

“It took a great deal of time, and thoughtfulness to complete the paperwork. Kerrie saw a need and cared so much that she worked to meet it. Kerrie is great at making relationships with students and strives to make our school a safe place. The nomination and trip flowed from that commitment.”

Davies concluded by saying it meant a lot to her that she was nominated.

“It makes me so happy, and glad to be here. I always have fun at this wonderful school."

Chinook's Edge has a total of 12 schools in neighbouring communities, including Olds, Mountain View County, Didsbury, Crossfield and Carstairs.
