An extra glow will shine from Watrous beginning on Monday night.

The spirit of Christmas will officially ignite when they hold their tree lighting.

It will be held inside Cenotaph Park at 7:00.

Recreation Coordinator Chelsea Murfitt says around the giant tree inside of the park, the community gathers around and kicks off the holiday season as they turn on the lights in the park as well on Main Street including a Season’s Greetings sign.

The Grade 2-7 choir from the Watrous Elementary School will be performing carols and Mayor John Gunderson will be providing greetings.

A special visitor will be stopping by in Watrous on Monday night, as Santa Claus will visit the community to help with their celebrations.

Western Financial Group will be providing free hot chocolate and cookies to everyone that stops by the park.

Murfitt noted that last year’s gathering for the tree lighting was one of the largest that Watrous has ever seen and is hopeful to repeat this year’s event.
