The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is one of the latest movies to be filmed in Winnipeg and features a father-son duo from Winnipeg.
Matthew and Levi Ostrove were both excited to be in the latest film from The Chosen's, Dallas Jenkins.
"We were sent emails [from Madlib Casting] and we were very happy to get them," Matthew said.
The Ostrove's were shooting on set for two days with Levi taking on a third day in Stonewall. Getting to film in their own community was a highlight for Matthew. "It was amazing. It was the first time that Levi got to see how a movie is made."
Getting to have the first experience with his dad was a highlight for Levi. "It was really fun. We were sitting together at the back behind Judy Greer and Pete Holmes. We had a really good experience."
While the days were long, typically around 12 hours, the Ostroves enjoyed the experience. "Pete Holmes was making a lot of noises with Judy Greer. Every time we would have to retake the shot because they would make shooting noises," Levi said.
Matthew said that while they were waiting to shoot their scenes, they were well-fed. "There was a lot of candy on set because it's Christmas time."
Besides working with family, they both made several friends with the other actors. "We were congregants in the church," Matthew said. "Levi was a schoolkid feature background in Stonewall with the rest of the kids from Los Angeles and Winnipeg. So there were a lot of cool kids he met from California."
