Music has always been a part of the Smallbone family's lives. Growing up, it kept food on their table and a roof over their heads.

Rebecca St. James started her singing career at just 12 years old, followed by her brothers, Luke and Joel Smallbone who formed for KING + COUNTRY.

That gift of music continues to be passed on, with Luke's son Phoenix joining the band to play drums alongside his dad and uncle during their Drummer Boy Concert Tour.

"I’ll never forget before Phoenix played the first show - we were at the side of the stage and obviously he had prepared, but that is different than walking on a stage with bright lights in a full arena," said Courtney Smallbone. "I looked at him (feeling his nerves & talking through the things that worried him, like dropping a stick etc.) and told him this was IN HIM and that he loves to play drums. He always has."

The family has videos of Phoenix as a baby beating on the drums while watching his dad on tour.

"At the age of 4 he said to me in passing he “felt God’s presence when he played drums“, I reminded him of that and now he gets to give his gift back to God," said Courtney.

Courtney says it's beautiful to watch how God has gifted her son.

"Whether it’s just been me watching or many. The gift God gave him, given right back in delight. Honestly the story of the drummer boy in real time. That’s what it’s all about."

Although the Drummer Boy Concert Tour only has four dates, all in the United States, the entire event is being filmed and will be released in theatres for a limited time for everyone to enjoy.

for KING + COUNTRY's A Drumer Boy Christmas Live tour will be shown at the Cineplex Odeon McGillivray & VIP Cinemas on Dec 15 and 16.
