With only two wins in their last seven games, the Humboldt Broncos will try and restore their winning ways as they meet the Notre Dame Hounds tonight.

Humboldt remains in the tight playoff race in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) but has fallen to the back end of the pack, sitting at 27 points (13-11-1). The Broncos are tied with the Kindersley Klippers and La Ronge Ice Wolves but have games in hand on both squads.

This evening’s matchup will be the third time over the last two weeks, the Broncos and Hounds will face each other. After an opening weekend two-game sweep, the Hounds have won the last two matchups against their Nutrien Division rivals.

Saturday night saw Hounds goalie Spencer Borsos make 57 saves as Notre Dame scored three times in the final period to walk away from the Elgar Petersen Arena with two points.

Broncos Defenceman Ryder Knutson has enjoyed a strong start to the month of December on the scoresheet, picking up goals in back-to-back games this past weekend in Kindersley and against the Hounds, he now has three goals on the season.

Humboldt is kicking off the final stretch before the Christmas holidays with five of their next games on the road including a home-and-home set against the Melfort Mustangs before a three-game southern road trip in Weyburn and Estevan.

Tonight’s game will be a neutral site in Wynyard at Co-Operatives Place.

Broncos trainer Skip Deeg will return to his hometown of Wynyard for today’s game, and it will mark his 1,300th game as a trainer in Junior ‘A’ hockey.

Coverage for tonight’s game on Bolt FM begins with pregame coverage at 6:45, opening faceoff is 7:00.
