Lois Irene Theissing
September 28, 1942 – December 8, 2024
The death of Lois Irene (nee Scheck) Theissing of Humboldt, SK, occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Sunday, December 8, 2024. She was 82 years of age. Lois was born on September 28, 1942, at Providence Hospital in Fort St. John, British Columbia, to Emmanuel and Lucina (née Lohman) Scheck. She grew up and attended school and graduated in Fort St. John. She then moved to Edmonton, AB, and continued her education with the Grey Nuns, and became a licensed practical nurse. On July 15, 1965, Lois married the love of her life, Lawrence Theissing. Together they took over the family farm near Fulda. For a short time, Lois worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt. Lois and Lawrence retired from farming in 1994 and moved to Humboldt. Lois then provided childcare and worked for St. Augustine Parish. She also volunteered countless hours providing funeral lunches, care at St. Mary’s Villa and with her membership with the Catholic Women’ s League. Lois enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and playing cards. She was a fabulous baker and any child that came to visit would be greeted with a smile and a homemade cookie. Though Lois was a busy lady, she always made time to spend with her family and friends. Lois was predeceased by her husband Lawrence; parents Emmanuel and Lucina (nee Lohman) Scheck; nephew Jeff Scheck; sister-in-law Armella Koob; and brother-in-law Alfred Koob. Left to mourn Lois’ passing are her brothers: Dennis (Merilyn) Scheck of Fort St. John, BC; Brian (Joan) Scheck of Grande Prairie, AB; and Ron (Janet) Scheck of Prince George, BC; brother-in-law Harold (Carleen) Theissing of Humboldt; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Kathryn Kramer, cross bearer; Lorraine Vokali and Paul Vokali, scripture readers; Carleen Theissing, intentions; Ashley Koob and Kayla Koob, gift bearers; Margaret Cody and Rosemary Reynaud, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, Renee Zimmerman, pianist, Kristin Raney, soloist, Dion Niebrugge, guitarist, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. An honor guard was formed by members of the Catholic Women’s League. Pallbearers were Matthew Scheck, Devin Scheck, Ken Scheck, Christopher Hannotte, Gerald Koob, and Sheldon Becker. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery.
