Allison Murchie Briggs (1937-2024)
Mr. Allison Briggs peacefully passed away on December 9th, 2024, at the age of 87 at Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Allison was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick (NB), and grew up in the area. He went to St. Andrews, NB, to be educated in agriculture. He married Sibyl Grace Anderson in 1957 making Plaster Rock, NB, their home, where he farmed until 1968. Around the age of 30, Allison travelled to Portage la Portage, Manitoba (MB), where he competed in plowing matches and, while there, fell in love with its rich soil. Shortly after leaving the family farm in New Brunswick, the family would move and settle there where he continued to farm for many years. In 1984, Sibyl was involved in a car accident and passed away, which impacted his passion for farming. He later re-married in 1985 to Lynne (Margaret) Schmidt and they shortly after moved to British Columbia. They spent the next few years B.C., then moved to Saskatchewan, later returning home to Portage la Prairie. Allison belonged to the Manitoba Plowing Association and continue to enjoy competing in plowing matches. He was also chair of the Annual Potato Festival in Portage for a few years. In his later years he loved participating in a local community garden, always planting a copious number of tomatoes and beans! Allison and his wife Lynne moved to Winnipeg, MB, entering the care home, Tuxedo Villa in 2023.
Allison was predeceased by Murchie and Faye Briggs (parents), Darlene Snow (sister), and his first wife Sibyl Grace Briggs. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Margaret Lynne Briggs, brother Reed and Linda Briggs, sister Shirley Radley, brother-in-law Lang Snow.
