There will be a strong local content of U15 hockey players that will be taking part in the Sask First Top 160 tournament later this month.
80 2010-born players from the North regions were selected from the regional camp held in Aberdeen this past weekend (Dec.6-8).
The regional camps served as the first step towards players being considered for the Saskatchewan team that will participate in the 2026 Western Hockey League (WHL) Cup featuring the top 16-year-old hockey players.
Among the players selected from the regional camp were defenceman Kohen Ruedig, forwards Kade Baert, and Anthony Schlachter, from Humboldt.
Forwards Jack Ellis from Bruno, Kash Elke Lanigan, Beau Anholt from Naicam and Goalie Cohen Kuntz from Muenster also made the North team.
The northern squad will be in the Top 160 tournament in Regina, from Dec.28-30.
Following the Top 160, players will be selected to the Top 80 tournament that will be in Balgonie from Feb.14-16, 2025.
In the summer, 29 players will be identified to take part in the summer camps in June, July, and September in Regina.
From there, the players from the summer camps will be selected for the Saskatchewan team at the WHL Cup.
The Sask First elite events are highly attended by scouts from various elite leagues. As well, the Sask First Program serves as a gateway to Hockey Canada’s High Performance Program, which includes National Teams such as the World Juniors.
