This evening, the CPKC Holiday Train dazzled Airdrie, lighting up Nose Creek Park with music, community spirit, and holiday cheer—all in support of fighting food insecurity.

The train, illuminated with thousands of colourful lights, rolled into the east side of the CP tracks, drawing crowds from across the city. Families and friends gathered to enjoy live performances by Sofia Camara and MAGIC!, creating a festive and unforgettable atmosphere.

The excitement was palpable as the train brought a sense of wonder and joy to the community. Since its inception in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised over $24.3 million and collected over 5.3 million pounds of food to support community food banks in Canada and the United States.

Airdrie’s stop was one of 167 scheduled performances across seven provinces and 13 states this year, showcasing the train’s dedication to spreading holiday magic and addressing food insecurity. Keith Creel, CPKC President and CEO, emphasized the initiative’s significance.

"The Holiday Train unites people in the spirit of the season while supporting local food banks. We look forward to seeing smiles and cheers from people coming together in the spirit of giving."

Christine Taylor, Marketing and Communications Manager at the Airdrie Food Bank, highlighted its local impact.

"This heartwarming tradition not only spreads joy but also helps us ensure no one in Airdrie goes hungry, especially during the holidays."

The excitement didn’t stop with the train’s arrival. The Festival of Lights is hosting its Emergency Services Night, where families can interact with Airdrie’s firefighters, RCMP, and EMS personnel till 9 p.m.

As part of its journey, the Holiday Train continues to raise awareness about food insecurity while spreading joy. Each stop is free, but attendees are encouraged to donate food or funds to local food banks, ensuring the holiday spirit extends to those most in need.

Airdrie’s holiday season continues with events like Free Public Skating with Santa on Monday, December 23, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration on Tuesday, December 31. The celebration features a fireworks display at 6:30 p.m. at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park and free skate sessions earlier in the day at Genesis Place.
