The long train keeps rolling, the holiday train that is! CPKC is sending their 26th annual Holiday Train down the tracks and stopping in Weyburn on Wednesday, December 18th. Since 1999, CPKC has decorated up their holiday train and steamed through Canada and the U.S. spreading holiday cheer and raising funds for a great cause. Terry Cunha is a spokesperson with the CPKC who explains how the spirit of Christmas helps those in need.
“It's a fantastic four-week event where we get the opportunity to engage with thousands of people along our network, all to raise money and donations for local food banks at each and every one of our 167 stops this year.”
Since its inauguration over a quarter century ago, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised over $24.3 million and collected over 5 million pounds of food for local food banks throughout the Canada and U.S.
Running from as far west as Port Moody, B.C. all the way to Saint John, N.B., and as far south as Laredo, Texas; the holiday train will spend 29 days spreading Christmas cheer for a fantastic cause. Cunha mentions that this isn’t your ordinary locomotive heading down the track.
“It is a fully decorated and lit up CPKC train that has Christmas lights from front to back, with beautiful imagery and lights, and then at each stop the doors open and we have two very talented musical artists this year in Weyburn.”
The artists mentioned coming to Weyburn this year are Seaforth and Alana Springsteen, two fantastic rising country stars singing not only their most famous hits, but some classic Christmas songs and covers as well. The CPKC Holiday Train will be stopping in Weyburn this Wednesday, and Cunha encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the Christmas spirit.
“Just to help celebrate and engage the community during the Christmas season, and these are all free shows, all that they ask is for individuals to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank. It doesn't matter the temperature; the community continues to come out and support a very important cause and participate in a great family activity”
It’s free to attend and fun for the whole family! They ask that you please bring a non-perishable food item to help donate to the local food bank to ensure that no family goes hungry during Christmas.
