The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to finish their time in Assiniboia on a winning note Tuesday as they entertained the Yorkton Terriers at the Southland Co-op Centre. The Terriers, though, had other plans as they handed the Red Wings a 4-1 loss, jumping ahead of Weyburn for first in the Viterra Division.

Despite the loss, Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes wasn’t too upset about the effort in the game.

“I’m fairly happy with it,” the coach commented after the game. “We got to clean a few things up, we got to fix up our power play here – power play can’t go minus one – but at the end of the day, we implemented a few things here over the last 24 hours that I thought our guys picked up on really well.”

The Terriers opened the scoring in the game just 87 seconds in when David Coyle beat Angelo Zol to make it 1-0. Weyburn would reply before the end of the period, though.

Ryder Rommelaere scored his third of the season with 6:18 to play in the first. Jase McNichol assisted with the goal.

The Terriers would regain the leader with 7:46 on the clock in the second period. Jaron Desnoyers scored shorthanded to make it 2-1 for the visitors. The Terriers added a pair of empty net goals late in the third period to make it 4-1.

The Red Wings will now say farewell to the Southland Co-op Centre, their temporary home while repairs were made to the ice plant at Crescent Point Place. They will be back in Weyburn for their final home game before the Christmas break as they host the Humboldt Broncos on Thursday night.
