The Town of Olds and Mountain View County have released the 2024 Inter-Municipal Cooperation Committee (ICC) Annual Report, outlining progress on key initiatives to strengthen partnerships and improve residents' services.

The ICC, established to foster open communication and collaboration, met four times this year to address shared priorities, including public safety, economic growth, recreation, and resource planning.

"Collaboration between our communities is vital," said Angela Albers, Reeve of Mountain View County. "The ICC allows us to align on shared goals that benefit residents and enhance services throughout the region."

Key initiatives in 2024

The report highlights several accomplishments, including updates to the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) agreements, which focus on resource sharing and long-term planning for regional facilities and services. Residents can access more details at the Mountain View County website.

Discussions on enhanced RCMP policing positions were also a priority, with crime reduction strategies explored.

"We want to ensure our communities remain safe and that we’re addressing regional concerns effectively," said Judy Dahl, Mayor of Olds. Additional consultations are planned with RCMP leadership in 2025.

Another focus was supporting local businesses. Mountain View County contributed $10,000 toward the Olds Economic Development Strategy, which helps businesses with retention, expansion, and workforce planning.

The ICC also secured funding through the Alberta Community Partnership Grant to support a lifecycle assessment and feasibility study for the Olds Sportsplex, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Discussions began on agriculture and recreation planning, exploring opportunities to strengthen services and develop initiatives to boost tourism and economic activity.

Supporting recreation opportunities

The report underscored the ICC’s contribution to community recreation, with $127,350 allocated to support operations at the Olds Aquatic Centre. "Recreation facilities like the Aquatic Centre are essential to our communities, offering opportunities for residents of all ages," said Mayor Dahl.

Looking ahead to 2025

With preparations for the municipal election on the horizon, the ICC plans to continue fostering regional collaboration and exploring opportunities to address infrastructure, development, and shared services.
