The Sandhills Boxing Club brought the energy to Leader, Saskatchewan, on Saturday night, hosting the 3rd Annual South Saskatchewan Classic at the Leader Community Hall. A full house of 250-275 spectators turned out to watch 12 exciting bouts featuring fighters from 10 clubs across Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Clubs from Kopas, Medicine Hat, Newline, Sunshine, Meadow Lake, Calgary, North Battleford, Sandhills, Red Wolf, and Lloydminster all sent athletes to the ring, showcasing talent from Junior A to Elite levels. Food, drinks, and high-intensity matches kept the evening going.
Event organizer Isabelle Blohm shared her excitement about the evening’s success. “We packed the house. It was really good. I think there were about 250, 275 people in there. We had 10 clubs from all over the province and Alberta also come down, and we had 12 bouts from Junior A to Elite,” she said.

The evening was not only about competition but also celebration. The Sandhills Boxing Club took time to honour their long-time coach Sheldon Siewert for his decade of dedication to the club and the sport. Siewert, who is moving away for work, received heartfelt recognition for his contributions over the years.
One of the highlights of the night was the "Best Bout" award, which went to Sandhills’ own Ryder Bredy, much to the delight of the home crowd. Blohm noted, “The best bout of the night was awesome. It was nice that it went to one of our fighters for Ryder Bredy.”
The South Saskatchewan Classic continues to grow year after year, bringing together boxers, fans, and families for a thrilling night of sport and community. For Sandhills Boxing Club, the event was not only an opportunity to showcase local talent but also to connect with clubs from across the region.
“It’s such a great way to bring everyone together, and we’re proud to host this in Leader. The fighters put on a fantastic show, and the crowd loved it,” Blohm added.
As the final bell rang, the event wrapped up for the Sandhills Boxing Club and its annual showcase.
