The flurries continue to fall this morning as a Snowfall Warning has now been extended to include the Morden, Winkler, Altona, Morris, Emerson and Vita regions in addition to the Manitou and Pilot Mound areas. According to Environment Canada, total accumulations across the warning area will be near 10cms, or slightly more, before the snow ends early this afternoon.

"As we expected, this system's track is continuing on a southeasterly trajectory, and that's why we will see a fairly significant divide in snowfall amounts between areas near the International border versus the Winnipeg area, as well as east and north of the city," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "Those totals will drop off fairly quickly, with the Capital region expecting just a couple centimeters Thursday morning."

The majority of the snow has already fallen in southwestern Manitoba, with another couple centimeters or so expected before tapering off this morning.

"Winds are expected to be relatively light today, just northeasterly at 20 km/h, but because this snow is dry and light, blowing and drifting snow are likely throughout the day," added Sumner. "Surface high pressure is following right behind this system as it passes through our area, and that will help clear the cloud cover out later today and tonight. Below average temperatures are expected for Friday, with highs between -15 and -18."

Looking ahead, seasonal conditions are expected for the final weekend before Christmas, highs around average for this time of year in the -8 to -10 range.

"As we get into Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we're expecting much warmer temperatures and well above average conditions," said Sumner. "At this point, there's also no indication of significant snowfalls or stormy conditions during the December 24th through 26th timeframe, either, which is certainly good news for those planning on travelling over the season."
