The Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie has been showing their exchange student Theo what it means to be a Canadian.
Theo arrived in Portage from Belgium for the Rotary Exchange Student Program, but his year has been a little different in the classroom. According to Theo, he had already graduated high school when he left for this trip, yet he still attends classes at Portage Collegiate Institute, giving him the chance to meet new people from the area.
"I've also been going to Southport on the weekend for soccer games," explains Theo. "I've been getting in the gym, lifting some weights. I'm very excited for the start of the regular soccer season in the spring."
When the Rotary Club brings in an exchange student, they do their best to send them on trips all across Canada and sometimes the United States, as opposed to just spending time in Portage. Theo's grateful for this, as he listed Canada as his top destination when submitting his application for the program.
"We'll go to Milford to do some skiing in January. I'll have a trip to go to the Rockies in May and when my family comes to visit, we'll do more of an Ontario and Quebec trip".
Theo hopes that everyone in Portage has a happy holidays and is excited to see how the city looks once the snow melts away again.
