Deacon O’Ray, a rising football talent from Portage la Prairie, has committed to the Kamloops Broncos Football Club in British Columbia, marking a major milestone in his athletic career. O’Ray’s dedication and hard work have earned him a spot at training camp in April, and he is excited about the future. O'Ray hasn't signed with the Broncos but will decide on his future in June 2025.

O’Ray, who has been actively seeking opportunities to further his football career, shared the details of his journey.

“I’ve been looking at Universities, sending my film out, and messaging Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) coaches on Instagram. I got a lot of responses, and it felt like the Bronco's genuinely wanted me."

The commitment to the Broncos is a significant step toward O’Ray’s dream of playing in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The CJFL, where O’Ray will play, is one step below the CFL, and many CJFL players, such as Kaden Banfield who's currently on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' practice squad, have successfully transitioned to the CFL.

“That’s the hope,” O’Ray added, emphasizing his long-term aspirations to one day play in the CFL.

O’Ray plans to head to Spring camp in April, where he will compete and determine if the Broncos are the right fit for him.

“If I like it there, I’ll apply to Kamloops University and hopefully start there in the fall.”

Off the field, O’Ray is also considering pursuing a degree in either Culinary Arts or Business.

Expressing gratitude to those who have supported him, O’Ray thanked his parents, coaches, and teammates.

“Big thanks to my mother and father for making me the best person I can be. My coaches here in Portage and The Manitoba Indigenous coaches who have helped me a lot with my development."
