Cochranites once again showed their caring ways for our community's seniors.
Over 1,100 gifts were delivered to Cochrane seniors by the Cochrane Elves, who are committed to ensuring everyone had a gift to open at Christmas.
Cheryl DeMaere Ellis, one of the head elves, says Cochrane has come through every single year. Her early worries were quickly set aside when the gifts began flowing into Cochrane Toyota on Dec. 1, almost like a switch had been flipped.
"It's like once the Christmas lights were up it was over and done within a couple of days."
West Fraser also made a $750 donation that was used to purchase 30 gifts.
"It has been amazing. Every year, people thank us for what we're doing, but we do nothing," she says. "It's the residents of Cochrane that make it all happen."
Santa returned to lend a hand and brought with him some of his elves, and Mrs. Claus had to see it for herself this year.
"He told me such great things about this place, I had to come and check it out for myself," she says.
Santa says making a special trip from the North Pole was a treat.
"Travelling here to come and meet all the seniors and work with this amazing team. I wouldn't miss for the world."
Carrigan had an eager helper in two-year-old daughter Leddy. Carrigan had heard about what the Christmas Elves were doing, reached out, and was invited to assist with the deliveries.
"We didn't think twice," she says. "I thought it would be great to spread some holiday cheer. We teach our daughter to spread love and kindness and show gratitude, and what better way than to help give back to the community in such a beautiful way."
Gifts were delivered to Evergreen Manor, Big Hill Lodge, Hawthorne Cochrane, Bethany Cochrane, and Grand Avenue Village over two days.
