With the town so brightly decorated, Bighill Lodge residents had some tough choices to make during their annual tour and judging of the multitude of incredible Christmas displays.

In the end, they selected their top three that you may want to check out on your family tour through Cochrane's Winter Wonderland.

They recommend checking out 153 Baird Ave. (second place), 17 Carolina Dr. (third place), and four homes in Glenpatrick Court which were collectively given top honours.

Chris Fupel's family is one of the homeowners sharing the top prize. He says they've each had their pictures taken with the award and are now passing it around from neighbour-to-neighbour to enjoy.

RELATED STORIES

Fupel's family has a tradition of making their home shimmer with a massive Christmas display that dates back to a tradition started in Canmore by his dad.

"I've been doing it ever since I was 16 years old and then at 18, I moved to my own trailer in Canmore. I put up a few strings there and then I just kept doing it," he says.

His family changes the design every year and continues to add new pieces to their collection.

"We don't even use half of them. We've got a whole double car garage with old stuff from the 70s and 80s of my dad, and we alternate them so they don't wear out."

That includes the giant Santa they anchor with heavy cables just in case "Hurricane Cochrane" shows up.

"We put it up every second or third year because the wind catches it, blows it all around, and damages the rest of the display."

The tour has been a tradition of the lodge for over 15 years.
