Plenty of fog over the last couple of days
Categories

After plenty of cold days in December, the warm air is moving in just before Christmas Day this week.

The majority of southern Saskatchewan has been issued a fog advisory over the last couple of days.

Danielle Desjardins meteorologist with Environment Canada explains how the warm air creates the heavy fog.

“It just creates that a really stable layer in the atmosphere and with the moisture around it’s creating a lot of fog.”

Desjardins is expecting the fog to dissipate on Monday afternoon, before settling back later in the evening or in the overnight hours of Tuesday morning.

She adds the sun is the reason the fog lingers around a bit longer in the winter.

“The sun isn’t quite as strong as it is in the summer, so it has a really hard time burning off that cloud, like it does in the summertime.”

With the fog expected to be an issue on Monday and early on Christmas Eve on Tuesday, motorists are advised to adjust their light fixtures to ensure they are visible to traffic.

The good news is that once the fog is lifted on Tuesday morning, it shouldn’t be an issue for the next few days, including Christmas Day on Wednesday.

Desjardins adds temperatures should be above average throughout the week.
