Dave now resides in Heaven alongside his father; Herman, his brothers; Peter and Herman as well as mother-in-law; Rose Richardson and brother-in-law Glenn.
Dave was born September 8th 1962, in Winkler, MB. Where then he grew up with his siblings on a farm outside of Elm Creek. Being a farm boy Dave learned a wealth of knowledge and became a jack of all trades. With this vast knowledge it led Dave into his career in the Ag industry, where as a teenager he began working at a PMU Farm, eventually working at PMI, as a young man for many years. After the closure of PMI, Dave worked for different Ag Manufacturing Companies until he settled in at Hi-Tec Industries in Portage la Prairie.

Dave met Josie in Robin’s Donuts where he frequently hung out as he was an avid coffee drinker. Dave mustered up the courage to ask out Josie as he was a shy and quiet man, she obliged but stated their date would have to wait for three weeks as she had just finished her weekend off from work. From that first date, they fell madly in love and they purchased their first home together in June of 1998 in Oakville, MB. Shortly after they welcomed their daughter, Madisyn in July of 1999. Then he decided to make it official and tie the knot in March of 2000. Following their marriage they welcomed their son, Griffon in February of 2001. In 2007, Dave moved his family up north to Snow Lake, MB this was due to his mother-in-law’s illness. This then changed Dave’s career out of the Ag Industry and into the Mining Industry where he worked at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting. They resided there for five and half years until Dave and Josie decided to move the family back to Portage. In 2012 Dave returned to Hi-Tec Industries, but in a new career position.

Dave was an extremely proud father and enjoyed teaching his children anything and everything until they became independent adults. His son who he was so thrilled to watch delve into a career as an actuary, that has taken him to different provinces, where he now lives in Quebec, along with meeting Griffon’s girlfriend, Rosie, who Dave absolutely adored. He watched his daughter flip back and forth on everything until she became settled in a career at Mayfair Print Shoppe, where she then met Logan, her now husband, who gave Dave his very first and only grandchild, Isobel. Dave could not wait to become a grandfather and was overjoyed at the birth of Madisyn and Logan’s daughter.

Anyone that knew Dave knew that he was a strong-willed, hard-working man, who absolutely loved the outdoors. He would spend his time going for long walks with his dogs, digging up trees along old dirt roads, always in pouring rain, as it was much easier to dig them up. He enjoyed hunting and trapping of all kinds, specifically deer and beaver with his brother Jake and friend Frank. He also enjoyed fishing, it was one of his favourite leisure pastimes. Dave was an extremely innovative man who could build or create anything he set his mind to, his proudest job was his 19 foot shed, where he created a jig in order to lift the panels all on his own. Dave loved spending time with his son and daughter, whether it was working on vehicles, planting and helping with the garden, and going on long country drives where you usually had to grab a coffee before the trip ahead. Dave loved cooking with his wife as her sous chef, creating dishes that he would then brag about at work to his friends. He enjoyed their dinner dates to Red Lobster for any special occasion, as that was Dave’s favourite restaurant.

Suddenly, in July of 2023 upon returning home from work, Dave became ill as a result of a glioblastoma. This resulted in surgery and treatment, but Dave never gave up hope as he was a strong man of faith. He hoped that he would return to work and life would become a new normal. Dave was told he would only have six months, however, the good Lord blessed him with a year and five months. It was a constant wave of ups and downs, but through all, Dave persevered through to the very end.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
