Jake Fretz, worship pastor at Prairie Alliance Church, is preparing for a transformative year in both his musical and pastoral journey.

Today, he will release his new single, "Feel Your Forgiveness," the first of six planned releases for 2025. The song dives into the powerful themes of grace and redemption, reflecting Fretz’s personal transformation.

“Growing up in a religious community, I often felt weighed down by shame and guilt, but I began to embrace the truth that Jesus' sacrifice frees us from that weight," says Fretz. "That freedom became the heart of my new song. It’s about experiencing God’s forgiveness and living fully in that freedom.”

Fretz's passion for music began long before his songwriting career. "It’s been in my bones from day one,” Fretz said, adding that his deep connection to music became evident as he pursued a path of both artistry and ministry while attending Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Saskatchewan.

After studying at Briercrest Bible College to become a pastor and worship leader, Fretz faced a challenge many artists can relate to - balancing his musical ambitions with his desire to care for a congregation.

“The church became the place where I could pour into others, and as I did, I found new songs rising from those experiences,” he explained. "The songs are no longer just my story; they belong to the community."

Fretz’s journey took him from Southern Ontario to Manitoba, where he now lives with his wife and four children in Portage la Prairie.

“I had no idea where Portage was, but almost immediately, I realized this place felt like home. I can't imagine leaving.”

As a worship pastor and songwriter, Fretz has seen success, with several songs climbing Christian radio charts. In 2024 at the 43rd Covenant Awards and Conference, he won awards:

  • Recipient of the Adult Contemporary Song of the Year Award, for “My Home”
  • Recipient of the Musical Collaboration of the Year Award, for “My Home”
  • Recipient of the Worship Song of the Year Award, for “Look Up”

He was also nominated for:

  • Male Vocalist of the Year Award
  • Worship Artist of the Year Award

His latest release, "Feel Your Forgiveness" marks a new chapter in his career.

"2025 is shaping up to be my busiest year yet. We’ve got six songs ready to go, and I’m excited to share them."

Looking forward, Fretz is focused on using his music to foster connection in the community.

"Art has the power to unite and change communities. I hope my songs bring people together—not just with God, but with each other. I want to make a positive impact, not just for myself, but for the world around me. It’s about more than expressing what’s inside me—it’s about helping others feel seen and connected."
