The Terriers have been off to a solid start in the second half of the season, only one loss to this point in the new year, and two major reasons are Cameron Bullinger and Nolan Nenow. The gap is now down to two points separating those two as they sit third and fourth in the MJHL respectively in scoring. Bullinger leads the way with 48 points, and Nenow with 46.
Bullinger adds that he was the leader in getting a group of Americans onto the roster.
"I have a close buddy who played here in the past, and heard a lot of good things about Spills, so I wanted to make the effort to get up here, and then I drug Nolan along with me."
Nenow adds that it was largely through the influence of Bullinger that he launched made his way to the Terriers.
"I got here from Cam, from Jamestown. Honestly, I hadn't really heard much about Portage much, and I heard Cam said it was a great spot, and that's how I got up here, so it's great to be here."
The pair grew up playing against each other but more recently, were skating together a couple times a week.
The two guys both were highly complementary of each other, when asked to describe each other's play style on the ice.
Bullinger started by describing Nenow.
"I think we work with each other pretty well. I kinda give him the puck and let him do most of the work and get open. He uses his wheels."
Nenow gave a similar compliment to Bullinger, noting, "I think his biggest thing is finding the open ice, and getting the puck to where I'm going to be, not where I am. He said we work pretty good together, and I think it shows when we play together in a game. You can watch, we kind of know where each other are, and we have, almost eyes on the back of our head for each other."
The dynamic duo will look to continue their streak of strong play against the Steinbach Pistons on Wednesday, January 15. It's the team's first visit to the MJHL's leading squad's home this season, as they had hoped construction of Steinbach's new rink would be completed by then.
Unfortunately, they received no such luck, but will instead head to La Broquerie for a 7 p.m. puck drop. The game will be broadcast on CFRY with the Hi-Tec Industries pregame show beginning at 6:50.
