The Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre (PVPCC) continues to expand its outreach and support services to the community. Led by Linda Marek, Executive Director of PVPCC, the centre remains committed to offering practical and emotional support to individuals and families in times of crisis. With a series of new initiatives and partnerships, the PVPCC is preparing to make an even greater impact in 2025.
New partnership with MCC Altona
Marek shares exciting news about a collaboration with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Altona. The partnership is set to culminate in a joint event scheduled for January 29th, which Marek hints will be “super fun.”. While specifics are still under wraps, the community is encouraged to mark their calendars for what promises to be a meaningful and engaging occasion.
“We are really looking forward to this partnership with MCC,” says Marek. “It’s going to be a great opportunity to support our local community while also working together with other organizations that share our values."
Support group for those impacted by loss
The PVPCC is also preparing to launch a support group, “Steps in Hope,” starting in February. This group will offer a safe, supportive space for women who have been impacted by miscarriage or stillbirth. Marek emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive community for those navigating such a difficult loss.
“Loss is a deeply painful experience, and we want to help women work through their grief and find hope again,” Marek explains. “This group will give them a place to connect with others who have experienced similar situations and develop strategies for healing.”
The six-week support group, which will begin on February 11th, will be facilitated by a licensed therapist, ensuring professional guidance. It is confidential, free of charge, and open to women in the community who have experienced such losses. Those interested are asked to register in advance by calling PVPCC or emailing the group directly at stepsinhope@gmail.com.
Exciting fundraiser "Reel Life"
As the centre’s services grow, so too does the need for fundraising. This year, PVPCC is thinking outside the box with a creative new fundraiser called “Reel Life.” The event will feature short films addressing the real-life struggles that clients face, such as unexpected pregnancies, adoption, and loss.
Marek believes that this unique fundraiser will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the challenges many families face and how PVPCC supports them through difficult times.
“We’re really excited about this event because it’s an opportunity for us to show the community what we do through the lens of real stories,” says Marek. “These films will highlight the reality of what some of our clients experience, and we hope to create a meaningful conversation around these important issues.”
The event is expected to include snacks, screenings of short films, and an opportunity to learn more about the Pembina Valley Pregnancy Care Centre's programs.

A growing need for services
Marek shares that 2024 was the busiest year on record for PVPCC, with the centre providing services to over 150 individuals. This represents a significant increase from previous years, highlighting the growing demand for services, including pregnancy tests, grief counseling, and practical support for parents in need.
“It’s really encouraging that more people are finding out about us,” Marek says. “It’s a sign that we’re reaching people who need help, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve them. But with that comes the challenge of keeping up with growing costs, so fundraisers like ‘Reel Life’ are essential for us to continue offering our services.”
With the ongoing support of the community and partnerships like the one with MCC Altona, PVPCC is poised to make 2025 another impactful year for families in the Pembina Valley.
