A Moose Jaw man has been charged in relation to an incident that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old inmate at the Regina Correctional Facility on February 8, 2021. 

Saskatchewan RCMP's General Investigation Section (in cooperation with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service) allege that 42-year-old Mitch Schoffer provided the deceased with cocaine prior to him going into medical distress and ultimately passing. 

Following further investigation and consultation with Crown prosecutors, Schoffer was charged with one count, manslaughter, Section 236(b), Criminal Code and one count, trafficking cocaine, Section 5(1), Controlled Drugs and Substance Act on January 6, 2025.

He appeared in Regina Provincial Court on January 20, 2025.
