The Red Deer Christmas Bureau is holding a big fundraiser this weekend with their 3rd Annual book sale.

This sale, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday, January 25th and 26th, supports their Literacy Centre.

Teresa Kutynec, President of the Red Deer Christmas Bureau, says not everyone knows about the Centre or that part of their bureau.

"This program has been running for quite a few years. We have retired teachers who do this program, so they're quite knowledgeable when it comes to books and what kids are reading. We gave away 2700 books in 2024 for our kids, so we started doing book sales to raise money for the literacy program."

Another way the Christmas Bureau helps to teach kids to read is by giving away books during their Christmas programs. Kutynec explains.

"In our literacy center, we give each of our client's children 3 new or nearly new books every time they come shopping. We are always trying to collect books throughout the year for the program."

If you would like to purchase some books the sale runs this Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Books for all age groups, and all genres are being sold.

The Red Deer Christmas Bureau is located at #2 4630-61 Street in the industrial area at the bottom of Gaetz Avenue.
