A 27-year-old man is in custody in connection to a carjacking that took place this week during broad daylight.

Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, officers responded to the 400 block of William Avenue where a 33-year-old man had been robbed of his 2009 Toyota Sienna.

Police say the suspect robbed the man and then opened the vehicle door, forcibly pulled out the victim before striking him in the upper body with a weapon and fleeing in the victim's vehicle.

The victim sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday morning, the stolen vehicle was found in the 300 block of Ross Avenue.

During the investigation, a member of the Major Crimes Unit, familiar with the suspect, identified him and learned that the suspect had been arrested by West District General Patrol officers on an unrelated matter shortly after the carjacking.

The 27-year-old man faces a long list of charges including robbery and possession of a weapon.

He remains in custody.
